Minneapolis Bike Polo will hold its third annual Midwest Open Bike Polo Tournament at the Roseville Skating Center, 2661 Civic Center Rd., on Oct. 13 – 14. Bike polo is similar to traditional polo, except bicycles are used instead of horses. The game has seen an explosion of popularity in recent years and this year’s tournament should feature dozens of teams.
It may see strange that an organization called Minneapolis Bike Polo is holding its tournament in St. Paul, but according to organizer Ebbin Martin, it’s out of necessity.
“One of the reasons we end up throwing a tournament in St Paul is lack of a good, regular local place to play,” said Martin. “We play year-round, and have been kicked out of numerous parking ramps in our search for a place to play in the winter. My hopes in getting publicity are to raise awareness of the sport in general, get support for our group in particular including our own space to our specs.”
Registration for the tournament is $25 per player or $75 for a team of three. The tournament is open to players of all skill levels. For more information, visit mplsbikepolo.com.
