A 78-unit market-rate apartment development with ground floor commercial space could begin construction at 600 5th St. N. within the next few months. The site is next to the Fulton Beer brewery and mere blocks from both Target Field and the upcoming transit hub The Interchange.
The developer of the project is The Natural LLC, which owns several apartment developments around the Metro area.
According to architect Pete Keely of Collage Architects, the project has been well-received by both the Minneapolis City Council and the North Loop Neighborhood Association. He cited the project’s bike-friendly design as an element that received praise.
“It’s set up very well for bicycles,” said Keely. “We’ve got one bicycle storage space per unit. In addition we’ve got this bike transit center, which will have a place to repair stuff, clean your bike, get bike maps. This population will be a bike-friendly population.”
The development will also include 4,800 square feet of commercial space, an outdoor plaza and a rooftop deck with views of Target Field. Keely said the development is projected to open to residents in September 2013.
