The former garage at 451 Stinson Blvd. is now Lift Coffee and Treats, a new coffee shop focused on local and organic products. The building is somewhat of an unusual location – close to The Quarry Center retail complex, several condo buildings and offices, yet largely separate from them all. The coffee shop shares a large parking lot with next-door neighbor Zakia Deli, and the two buildings feel a bit isolated in the sea of concrete. But owner Charlie Swenson feels that Lift Coffee will fit into the area nicely.
“It’s a unique location,” said Swenson. “It’s a visible location, but it’s sneaky.”
Swenson said Lift Coffee and Treats has already developed regulars and thinks that the shop’s focus on local products will bring in even more customers. Lift Coffee serves organic, fair-trade coffee from B+W Specialty Coffee, a coffee roaster a few blocks away. It also serves cookies from North Minneapolis’ Cookie Cart, chocolates by B.T. McElrath, an artisan chocolate company located in the same building at B+W Coffee. Swenson said he’s also talking to nearby restaurant ChinDian Café about serving its spring rolls.
The product that may be the biggest draw, however, are the donuts. They are delivered fresh every morning from popular St. Paul shop Mojo Monkey Donuts. Swenson said the donuts are hard to get outside of St. Paul and the most popular styles sell out in the first few hours each day.
“We’re happy to promote local products,” said Swenson.
On July 14, Lift Coffee and Treats will host a car wash in its parking lot to raise funds for Edison High School’s girls soccer program.
