The Minneapolis City Council, on a 7-6 vote today, approved a deal to build a Vikings stadium in downtown using city sales tax revenue.
Mayor R.T. Rybak celebrated afterward with Vikings fans and construction workers in his office. One fan poured a can of Grain Belt beer into a horn and he and the mayor drank from it.
The fans also gave Rybak a “rock star” award for getting the deal approved.
Council Member Gary Schiff told opponents of the deal to stay active for the next year and to hold the City Council “accountable” for the vote.
